CAGE PRISONERS REJECTS GUILTY VERDICT IN THE TRIAL OF DR. AAFIA SIDDIQUI
Friday, 5th February, 2010 (12:17 PM) |
* Cage Prisoners
After two weeks in court, the trial of Dr Aafia Siddiqui has resulted in a guilty verdict for the mother of three.
Due process was hindered from the very beginning as the main questions surrounding the case were thrown out by the judge: where was Aafia Siddiqui for the five years prior to the FBI story in 2008 and why was she not tried for any number of the more serious charges relating to international terrorism.

Cageprisoners rejects the guilty verdict given by the jury in this case in light of Judge Berman not permitting any evidence to be given of Siddiqui’s whereabouts prior to her arrest. Cageprisoners has been following the case of Aafia Siddiqui since 2004 and with conclusive evidence that she was detained at Bagram Airbase, the very premise of her trial was flawed.
Cageprisoners Spokesperson Asim Qureshi said:
“The case of Aafia Siddiqui carries great significance in terms of the ability of the Obama administration to administer justice. Already we have seen a blanket refusal to look at the facts of her detention prior to 2008, this verdict will only confirm what many already believe, that it is impossible for Muslim terrorism suspects to receive a fair trial in the US.”
